Bala Vihar Overview

The rich cultural heritage of India, including its teachings on moral values, is taught to children and youth at different levels, using the medium of stories, drama, arts, crafts, and discussion.

Bala Vihar classes have become models for teaching India's rich spiritual heritage and the fundamentals of Vedanta to the next generation.

Purpose and Objectives of the program 

• Introduce Hindu Cultural Heritage and Traditions through Puranas, Epics and Stories.
• To provide an environment where children can meet and share a common value system and feel a sense of identity with the Hindu Culture.
• The teaching also builds character and gives them the confidence they need to grow up in a multi-racial community.
• Indian children and youth who understand their Culture will be able to share the knowledge with their American counterparts.
• We hope that the children will grow up in the Hindu tradition with their parents and eventually pass it on to others.

Organization and Administration

Chinmaya Mission Alpharetta Bala Vihar is handled by Sudha Malhotra and Bhavana Subramanian.

Sudha Malhotra plans and handles the curriculum for the classes for the various ages. She works with the teachers to ensure that they have the required material for their class.

Bhavana Subramanian handles the administration and other needs of the classes such as maintaining roster, registration, fees, communicating with parents via email about upcoming events & classes etc.


Class Material

The Bala Vihar folder is available at the Bala Vihar. It also includes a CD for all the shlokas & bhajans. In addition, we use the specific text books for certain classes (Bala Ramayan, Bala Bhagvatam etc).

Holiday Schedule

Bala vihar follows the holiday schedule of Fulton County school system. We are generally not closed for Teacher workdays. Parents will be informed via email about any schedule changes.

Fees

Since we are a non-profit organization and as we rent the building to conduct the classes, our fees include the cost of renting space, insurance and cost for the supplies for our class activities. Bala vihar Folder and books are included.

Communication

Communication with parents is very important to us. Announcements are usually made during the Prayer gathering at the beginning of Bala vihar classes and emails are sent to keep you informed of the happenings at the Bala vihar. Please check your emails regularly and send us an email if you have any questions.
